Nigel Doughty - Forest Legend (10/6/57 to 4/2/12)

Few people, if any, have ever contributed more to Nottingham Forest than Nigel Doughty.

I remember very vividly where I was when the news came through on 4/2/12 (the day before we were supposed to be playing Derby at Pride Park) We were just siting in our front room and my daughter got a message on her phone with the news. For a few minutes we thought surely not, but within minutes, it was confirmed on Sky Sports News. Radio Nottingham did a very fitting tribute that evening and as it happened, the game at Derby was snowed off.

He was, like myself a Newark lad & a Forest fanatic. Even in his capacity of 'saviour' and owner, he always remained a fan, just one of us. Where we might have been at times without his generosity does not bear thinking about.

I have attached a couple of tribute links but there are many many more that can be found online.

A year after his untimely death, he was still remembered with such fondness. I have tried to attach a link but I'm not sure it is working properly:

www.forestforum.co.uk › Football Banter › Forest Banter ....If it does not work, just google 'Nigel Doughty tributes' & it is the one forestforum links to ltlf. There are some very touching comments and some nice pictures, including him enjoying our league 1 promotion day, tributes left at the ground & 'that' Forest tree in his garden (hedge). I have also added a couple of pictures in the 'gallery' section on this website.

I did not know him personally although there were times when he would sit with the fans at various away games. Not only did he save our club in life, even after his death he had ensured plans were in place to protect NFFC. When Fawaz & the Al Hasawi family bought the club in the summer of 2012, it was so fitting that they named the academy after him.

It was sad that he felt the need to resign as chairman when he did & that he did not attend the CG in those last few months of his life. I hope he and his family knew that the massive majority of Forest fans so appreciated all he did for our club and were absolutely gutted at the news of his death. He will always be sadly missed at the CG.

When Billy leads us back to the Premiere League, I hope he dedicates it to Nigel as well as Fawaz, that would be fitting.

www.forestforum.co.uk › Non-Football Banter › LTLF Gold ... Nope this link won't work it would seem, but it's the one with LTLF.
