/11/78 - A fantastic Forest performance in a 5-1 hammering of AEK Athens at the CG in front of 38,069 to register a 7-2 aggregate win & we are into the European Cup Quarter-Finals. Who could have imagined that in their wildest dreams when you think where we were less than 2 years earlier? ... It would of course get much better still! ... Attached below, extended highlights of the game:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=guQ4wgLA7YQ - Nottm Forest 5 v 1 AEK Athens - 1/11/78

/11/83 - With a 2-1 lead from the away leg, the Reds progressed comfortably to the 3rd round with a 1-0 win at the CG against PSV Eindhoven (aggregate 3-1) ... to set up an epic meeting with Celtic ... & another couple of unforgetable nights!

/11/08 - Lee Camp is the hero with a penalty save late in the game at Derby, admist a chaotic last few minutes where either side could have won it, in reality Derby should have ... but the Reds deserved thier point in this 1-1 draw, especially after McGugan had unluckily been sent off.

/11/73 - After 4 games without a win, the Reds pick up their first away win of the season with a 1-0 win at Crystal Palace, courtesy of a goal, from Duncan Mckenzie ... again, as the promotion push starts to gather some momentum.

/11/76 - Forest beat Ayr United 2-0 at the CG (4-1 on aggregate) to reach the Anglo Scottish Cup Final, where we will play Leyton Orient over 2 legs Many people knocked the competition ... not Cloughie ... it would just be the start of things and the rest they say ... is history!

/11/89 - The Reds are beaten 1-0 at home by Sheffield Wednesday ... a game perhaps more remembered for seeing John Sheridan ... but in a Wednesday shirt ... Forest had signd him in the summer but he had made just 1 league cup appearance for us.

/11/77 - The Reds suffer only their 2nd league defeat of the season going down 1-0 at Chelsea but remain top of the table. We would lose just once more in the league all season.

/11/93 - Off the back of what was regarded as probably our worst result of the season (1-3 home defeat to Millwall), we travelled to Birmingham and produced a strong display to record a 3-0 win, a game considered by many as the turning point in the season. It started a 13 match unbeaten run in the league and the battle for promotion was back on.

/11/07 - The Reds came from 1 down to register a 4-1 win at home to fellow promotion chasers Southend in front of 26,094, a result which lifts us to 2nd in League One.

/11/78 - Another game that got me in trouble at school as we set of for Merseyside early, for the League Cup clash at Everton ... trailing 1-0 at half time, an excellent 2nd half fightback saw us take a 3-1 lead before finally winning the game 3-2 and  booking a place in the Quarter-Final ... as the defence of the League Cup continued.

/11/79 - The Reds took a 2-0 1st leg lead to Arges Pitesti of Romania ... it only took us 20 odd minutes to secure the tie as we took a 2-0 lead, eventually winning the game 2-1, 4-1 on aggregate and a place in the Quarter-Finals of the European Cup was secured ... as the defence of the European Cup continued.

/11/08 - Off the back of a win at Palace & a draw at Derby, the Reds hold Birmingham 1-1 at the CG, a result that leaves us 23rd & Birmingham 2nd ... but under Colin Calderwood, there is belief that we can climb the table.

/11/10 - The Reds promotion push started to gather momentum with a 2-1 win at the CG against Coventry ... sadly the season would end with more play off misery.

/11/82 - An incredible game at the CG as Forest batter Watford 7-3 in a League Cup 3rd Round tie ... I can't think offhand of a game that I have witnessed more goals in ... but only 14,973 were there to see it.

/11/78 - One of our best performances in the league so far in the current season as the Reds beat Tottenham 3-1 at White Hart Lane & the unbeaten run in the league is extended to an already record 40 games ... goals from Anderson, Robertson & Birtles.

/11/77 - I remember this game for the torrential rain! ... not that it was a bad game, it was a good game in fact, as we came from 1-0 down to beat Man Utd 2-1 at the CG, courtesy of goals from Burns & Gemmill.

/11/71 - In their 18th league game of the season, the Reds picked up only their 3rd, but biggest win of the season defeating relegation rivals West Brom 4-1 at the CG in front of 20,024, lifting us to the lofty heights of 19th place and out of the relegation zone ... goals from Richardson, O'Neill, McKenzie & as usual Storey-Moore.

http://www.statto.com/football/stats/england/division-one-old/1971-1972/table/1971-11-13  - As the league table shows, we still in grave danger however, with the sides below us all having a game in hand.

/11/79 - The Reds beat Bristol City 3-0 in this league cup 4th Round replay at the CG in front of 25,837 to progress to the Quarter-Finals and continued in their quest to win the trophy for 3 consecutive seasons.

/11/08 - The mini revival continues as the Reds earn a valuable point in a 2-2 draw at Bristol City ... twice ahead, on loan Camp again stars as he saves another penalty.

/11/98 - All 4 goals came in a 15 minute spell in the 2nd half in this 2-2 draw at the CG against fierce rivals Derby, the Forest goals coming from Freedman & Van Hooijdonk ... Derby scored first and last.

/11/73 - The Reds picked up a 3rd straight win by defeating fellow promotion contenders Carlisle 2-0 at the CG in front of 11,153, goals from Neil Martin & Duncan McKenzie ... again.

/11/79 - An incredible club record came to an end as the Reds were beaten at home in the league for the 1st time in 51 games (50 unbeaten) ,  beaten 1-0 by bottom of the league Brighton ... the last time we had lost in the league, at home being the 23rd April 1977, 0-1 v Cardiff City.

/11/95 - A day to forget as our 25 match unbeaten run comes to an end ... going down 7-0 to Blackburn at Ewood Park ... we didn't get revenge either later in the season at the CG as we went down 5-1!

/11/77 - Forest lost in the league for only the 3rd time of the season (16th league match), beaten 1-0 at Leeds ... those present may remember, Leeds scored as Shilton lay injured. Remarkably, we would not lose again in the league until 9/12/78, over a year in the future & after setting a then new record of 42 conseutive unbeaten league games (The equivalent of an entire league season at the time). The record would last until Arsenal's invincibles went 49 consecutive games unbeaten between May 2003 to Oct 2004. I think it is fair to say that Arsenal received much more recognition than Forest ever did for 2 such amazing feats ... although with a much smaller squad Forest were challenging by the 78/79 season for all 4 major trophies ... Cloughie even sent out full strength teams in friendlies!

/11/86 - Forest hammered Bradford City 5-0 in a 4th Round league cup tie at the 'odd' Odsal stadium. Basically Valley Parade was being rebuilt after the fire at the end of the 1984/85 season where shockingly 56 people had lost their lives.

/11/76 - The Match of the Day camera's are present to witness this promotion battle as 5th placed Forest hold league leaders Chelsea 1-1 in front of the biggest CG crowd of the season to date, 27,089 ... the game though perhaps more remembered for probably the worst violence ever seen at the CG as major crowd disturbances broke out long before, during and long after the match. ( See separate programme article section or click on link below:

http://www.trentsidetales.com/#!forest-programme-articles/c117s - Article about the Chelsea game in the programme for the next home game v Bristol Rovers.

/11/93 - The Reds form continued to pick up with a 2-0 win at struggling West Brom, courtesy of a brace from Stan Collymore ... again.

/11/97 - The Reds hammered fellow promotion chasers Charlton 5-2 at the CG to stay top of the table, courtesy of a hat trick from Pierre Van Hooijdonk plus goals from Campbell & Woan.

/11/83 - A very memorable & freezing cold night at the CG, 30 years ago as we took on Celtic in the 3rd Round of the UEFA Cup, 1st leg. The game ended 0-0 sending the 10,000 or so travelling Celtic fans in the capacity crowd of 34,084 home happy. In truth, the game probably should not have taken place such was the state of the pitch, partly frozen ... but what to do with all those Celtic fans in town!

Contrast the attendance against declining football crowds across the country at the time ... that season, our average home league crowd was 17,703 with a high of 29,692 & a low of 13,625.  It was a similar story away ... which gives an indication of the other clubs ... the average league attendance for our away games was 18,057 with a high of 43,005 & a low of just 9,818 ... and this was the top flight! ... I'm sure that not for the 1st time, people had written us off for the 2nd leg ... never a good idea with BC in charge.

/11/79 - The Reds are beaten for the 3rd successive game & 4th time in 5, this time hammered 4-1 at fierce rivals Derby at the Baseball Ground. It's the worst sequence of results since our return to the top flight & we would go on to pick up just 1 point in the next 3 games dropping to 13th ... mind you, wouldn't mind being 13th in the Premier League today!

/11/78 - The Reds win 1-0 at Bolton, a result which extends the then record unbeaten league record to an incredible 42 matches (equivalent to a full season at that time & in the top flight) ... albeit in this case it was over 2 seasons ... not that that should diminish the fantastic achievement in any way shape or form.  Although we would lose the next match 2-0 at Anfield, the record stood until it was broken by Arsenal's invincibles in 2004. No surprise that far more was made of Arsenal's achievements in the national media ... but by the end of the 78/79 season Forest had been crowned European Champions, become the 1st team to retain the league cup & finished runners up in the league. Not bad!

/11/94 - The Reds failed to score for the 5th successive game, this time going down 1-0 at Leeds. Despite picking up just 1 point in these 5 games, we were still 5th in the Premier league, having been 2nd.

/11/93 - The Reds move into the top half of the table with this 3-2 win at Sunderland, which included a brace from Stan Collymore ... including another cracker with the other goal from Scott Gemmill.

/11/95 - Forest beat Lyon 1-0 in the 3rd Round, 1st leg of the UEFA Cup at the CG in front of 22,141. Already we are the only English club left in Europe ... as we enjoyed reminding all the other clubs in the league as the season progressed.

/11/90 - After 1/2 hour or so of this 4th Round league cup tie at Coventry, I think every Forest fan had accepted we would not be winning the trophy for the 3rd successive season ... as we trailed 4-0. However, a Nigel Clough hat trick before half time reduces the arrears to 4-3 with Garry Parker levelling early in the 2nd half ... alas, the remarkable recovery was not to be as we lost 5-4.

/11/98 - Although the 98/99 campaign (our last in the Premier Laague to date) is largely remembered as 'doomed from the start' ... looking back at a series of home games in November & December, things could have been different ... on this day we comfortably led Aston Villa 2-0 only for the game to end 2-2, in the previous home game we had led Derby 2-1 only for it to end 2-2, & in the next home game we led Blackburn 2-0 only for them to equalise in the depths of injury time. With a little bit of luck, for which we had none ... things could have been different.

/11/77 - The Reds were in awesome form in this 4th Round league cup tie as Aston Villa were comfortably beaten 4-2 at the CG, at one point we led 4-0.

/11/69 - The Reds travelled to fierce rivals Derby for the 1st meeting in some time & against the odds pulled off a surprise 2-0 win, courtesy of goals from Ian Storey-Moore & Barry Lyons ... and a huge Forest following amongst a packed BBG crowd of 38225. We may have been on the decline and they very much on the up ... but this was our day.

/11/78 - Also very significantly on this day,  Viv Anderson became the 1st black player to represent England at full International level, a truly ground breaking and well deserved achievement.

/11/68 - The Reds play their 19th league game of the season and go down 1-0 at home to Liverpool ... 19 games in & still only 1 win to date ... 5-2 at West Brom back on the 7th September. We would finally get the 2nd win in the 21st match, a 1-0 win at home to Sunderland, courtesy of a goal from ... yes, you have guessed it ... Ian Storey-Moore.
